National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6 and ends on May 12, Florence Nightingale’s birthday. Florence Nightingale was a celebrated English, social reformer, statistician and founder of modern nursing. She became well-known while taking care of the wounded soldiers during the Crimean War. Nightingale was nicknamed “The Lady with the Lamp” because of her habit of making rounds at night. The American Nurses Association has designated 2017 as the “Year of the Healthy Nurse.” The Balance of Mind, Body, and Spirit in leading the charge for health and wellness.
During this week of recognition, we raise awareness of all nurse contributions and commitments and acknowledge the vital roles they play throughout our society. CompassionCare Hospice would especially like to thank all of our nurses who work closely with our patients and their loved-ones through their end-of-life journey. A hospice nurse is an integral part of the hospice team. Not only do they manage pain, symptoms, and medications but they also offer emotional support and assist in the process of death with dignity.
Thank you to all the nurses that help serve those throughout our Las Vegas Communities, we appreciate you and all you do!
