Both CompassionCare Hospice and Helping Hands of Las Vegas serve seniors throughout Southern Nevada. Like CompassionCare, Helping Hands services are free of cost to individuals and help them to remain independent for as long as possible.

Helping Hands of Vegas Valley was established in 2000 and is a non-profit organization with the mission to provide free, assistive services to senior citizens in Southern Nevada, allowing them to maintain their dignity and independence while improving health and daily living. They have a food pantry and provide transportation and respite care services.

Helping Hands food pantry is stocked with non-perishable items and offers a free bag of food and/or paper goods once a month to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Clients must be 60 years of age or older, show proof of Nevada residency and proof that their annual income is at or below 150% of current poverty guidelines. Transportation can be provided for medical appointments, grocery shopping and other errands. The vehicles Helping Hands use are wheelchair accessible. Individuals needing services are typically alone and frail, chronically ill, homebound, and/or dependent on a primary caregiver. They must be 60 years of age or older, show proof of Nevada residency and display a need for assistance.

Lastly, along with the Aging and Disabled Services Division, Helping Hands provides temporary relief for caregivers – respite care. Individuals who do not take time off while caring for a loved one may compromise their own physical and mental well-being. This service allows the caregiver a break to focus on themselves. Vouchers may be awarded one time per year (July-June) and are valued up to $1,000. They can be used to pay for approved home health assistance, adult daycare and brief respite stays at an assisted living.

Unfortunately, all of these services currently have waitlists, due to high demand and lack of capacity. CompassionCare Hospice is currently a sponsor for Helping Hands and these programs. If you are interested in a sponsorship or making a donation, contact them today. It could make a huge difference in the lives of local seniors. Helping Hands also accepts donations for the food pantry or volunteers to help in the transportation area. Visit their website for more information by clicking on the link below.
