National Hunger & Homeless Awareness Week begins today until November 20.

Perfectly timed. It is held every year the week before Thanksgiving. Be thankful for what you have. This week aims to be bring awareness to two important and often seen issues to the table. Hunger & Homeless Awareness Week is working towards a world where no one must experience hunger and homelessness. This year’s focus is to anti-criminalize homelessness. Being homeless is not a crime. Poverty has many different faces and the causes of homelessness are just as varied as the people who endure it. Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is just the start of what you and your local community can do year round. The issues of hunger and homelessness cannot be fully understood or addressed in one week.

Hunger among the more than 12 million U.S. Veterans over 60 is reaching critical levels. 51 million people in the U.S. go to bed hungry every night, 6 million of which are adults. Most of these 6 million people are veterans who served our country. Caregivers and seniors need to acknowledge that major health issues and bad nutrition are a result of hunger. Their health can become compromised when there is not enough to eat. There are programs to help feed the elderly. Take a look, apply. Some help is better than no help.
