June 5 is National Cancer Survivors Day.

June 5 is a day to celebrate life but also inspire and support those affected by cancer. CompassionCare Hospice of Las Vegas is here to serve as an outreach to the community. We want to draw attention to the ongoing process of cancer survivorship. To be a survivor means to be cancer-free. It includes people who continue to have treatment to either reduce risk of recurrence or to manage chronic disease. A cancer diagnosis affects many. National Cancer Survivors Day is for everyone, whether you’re a cancer survivor, a family member, friend, or medical professional. Approximately 14 million people in the United States have a history of cancer. About 60 percent of those survivors are over the age of 65. Cancer survivors often say they appreciate life more. Though, having a history of cancer can make one anxious about their health. Eating right is important to a better health. Whether you are still in treatment or have long since finished your treatment, there are many ways to continue to take care of yourself. Limiting processed foods and red meats and eating more fruits and vegetable are important to this equation. Life after cancer is a beautiful thing.
